COURSE OVERVIEW

To achieve net-zero emissions in the energy transition, it is essential to implement carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) practices.Geological formations, particularly depleted hydrocarbon reservoirs and saline aquifers, have emerged as the most promising targets for the permanent storage of CO2. This is due to the existing technology, skills, and infrastructure in the petroleum industry, as well as the vast reservoir pore volumes that are distributed across the globe. This course will delve into the various aspects of underground CO2 storage such as estimation of capacity, screening and selection of storage sites, and assessment of uncertainties and risks involved.
